Items accepted include prescription and over-the-counter medications, medicated soaps, shampoos, and creams, medicated aerosol products, mercury thermometers, and blood pressure units.

The drop box is emptied by Police personnel on a daily basis, with the contents then transferred to a secure area and ultimately turned over to Will County for disposal.

Costs of the program are covered by miscellaneous grants and donations received by the Mokena Police Department.
