The appointment of Mr. Vaccaro comes following an extensive search and recruitment effort by respected executive recruiter Voorhees and Associates working in tandem with Village elected and appointed officials and staff. He was selected from a field of over 80 candidates following a six month process that included—among other things—a series of tiered screenings and assessments, as well as multiple interviews.
Mr. Vaccaro is currently employed as a Deputy Chief of Police for the Village of Tinley Park. He has 24 years of progressive and proven law enforcement and leadership experience within the Tinley Police Department.
Mr. Vaccaro joined the Tinley Park Police Department as a full-time patrol officer in 1990, progressively serving since that time in the positions of Detective, Sergeant, Commander, and Deputy Chief. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business (Management) from DePaul University and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from DeVry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management. In addition, Mr. Vaccaro has attended Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command, the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Board’s Police Executive Response in the 21st Century Leadership Program, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
Married and the proud parent of three adult children, Mr. Vaccaro and his wife Emily will be relocating to Mokena from Tinley Park within the coming year as required by Village ordinance.
Chief Vaccaro will start work Monday, March 3.
