Joseph E. Budzyn, and his wife Pat, have been residents of Mokena since 1978. Mr. Budzyn was first elected a Village Trustee in April 1983. In late 1984, a temporary job transfer required him to resign before the end of his term.
In July 1991, Mr. Budzyn was appointed by the Mayor to the statutorily required, and newly created, Board of Fire and Police Commissioners (BOFPC). He served as the Chairman of the BOFPC from 1994 to 2015. In 2015, he resigned his position on the BOFPC after once again being elected a Village Trustee.
In addition to serving the village, Mr. Budzyn is also an active member of the community. He is a parishioner of St. Mar’s Catholic Church, their two children, Tricia and Capt Joseph, USAF, graduated from St. Mary School, and he and his wife, volunteer(ed) in many different capacities at St. Mary’s. Mr. Budzyn also served as a Committeeman, and adult leader, for Boy Scout Pack 39 and Troop 40, and he now serves as a BSA Merit Badge Counselor.
Further, Mr. Budzyn serves as a volunteer Admissions Liaison Officer (ALO), for the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO. As an ALO, he mentors students interested in seeking an appointment to the USAFA, guides them through the Congressional Nomination and USAFA application process, conducts applicant interviews, and makes appointment recommendations. Mr. & Mrs. Budzyn are also Past Presidents of the USAFA, Northern Illinois Parents Club, a 501 c 3 organization, which supports the USAFA, cadets, and their families.
Professionally, Mr. Budzyn is a retired federal agent. During his 33 year career, he held staff, supervisory, and management level positions. He is a Distinguished Graduate of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Glynco, Georgia and a Graduate of the Leadership Development Program at the top ranked Center for Creative Leadership, Greeensboro, North Carolina. Mr. Budzyn now works as a consultant.
