Trees Trump Fence

Posted on Tuesday April 16, 2019

Sometimes folks prefer a more natural boundary than an artificial one.

At least that’s the case east of Mokena’s Hickory Creek Metra station, where nearby residents agreed with the owner of an adjoining commercial piece of land that trees created a nicer buffer between their respective properties than a fence.

As a result, developer Steve Vernon will be allowed to install additional landscaping on top of a berm located between the Burnside Station residential area and his neighboring lot in the Corporate Corridors North business park.  An eight foot high PVC fence was called for in the original special use permit (SUP) approved for the commercial property.

The revised plan for the berm was formalized April 8 when the Mokena Village Board approved an amendment to the original SUP.
