Construction Updates

Annual Street Maintenance Program

Mokena's annual Street Resurfacing Program is currently underway on nearly 4.11 miles of roadway.  Due to the volume of work involved in this project, construction is anticipated to last roughly 8-10 weeks.

The program contains five typical sequential stages:

  1. Saw-cutting of the curbs and sidewalks on your street:  Make the cuts in the curbs and sidewalks where the old concrete will be removed and replaced.
  2. Removal and replacement of the curbs and sidewalks:  The old concrete is removed and new concrete is poured in its place.
  3. Grinding of asphalt:  2" of the old asphalt is taken off the top of the street through a grinding process.
  4. Pavement patching:  Any spots in the street that need extra attention are patched.
  5. A final new layer of asphalt is placed.

Once the first step is started and/or completed on your roadway, it could be a week or longer before the next step gets started.  While you may experience some inconvenience during construction, resurfaced streets are a positive outcome for everyone!

Week of November 11th - Work in the Avenues subdivision has been completed. In Grasmere, the contractor has completed all mainline paving work.  Asphalt driveway repairs and striping at 195th Street and Everett Lane will be complete, weather permitting.

Enbridge Pipeline Maintenance

Enbridge Energy, Limited Partnership (Enbridge) plans to perform casing remediation maintenance work along their existing Line 6A pipeline at Milepost 441.0100 (196th Street and LaGrange Road).  The purpose of the work is to replace the existing end seals on each end of the casing and inject corrosion gel inhibitor into the pipeline casing.  The corrosion gel inhibitor is used to displace water and prevent the development of corrosion within the casing.  In addition, a small electrical box will be installed so Enbridge personnel can monitor the pipeline.  Work will take approximately two to four weeks, and is scheduled to begin in fall of 2019.
